Third Ear – Angela Carter

Paul Bailey introduces his interview with Angela Carter, which was recorded shortly before her death. In this lively conversation, Carter discusses her last novel, ‘Wise Children’, and explores the impact of Britishness, politics and the oral tradition on her bawdy and subversive writing. Angela Carter’s passion for the golden days of Hollywood, expressed in ‘Wise Children’, began during her childhood, when she was taken to cinemas all over south London by her father. Her love of film was life-long and when she died, at the age of 51, her memorial celebration was held at the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton.
